Learning to Create Financial Freedom
Part of my company's daily mission is to help people learn more about their financial future. We offer a number of educational tools to accomplish this important task: The James Dicks Magazine, James Dicks Financial Network (JDfn) radio programs, our PremiereTrade AI software, national training classes in a variety of cities every day across the U.S. and Canada, plus Web sites, newsletters and various books that I've written during the past few years. There's plenty of information available, but each person must decide that gaining financial knowledge is something they need to do before the first step can be taken.
It is our honor to feature Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke and his tremendous dedication to the subject of financial literacy in this month's issue of The James Dicks Magazine. His contention is the same as mine; if we are all stronger financially, the entire country will be stronger financially. And beyond that, if every family becomes more knowledable about their personal money matters, the more self-sufficient people can become. If you are able to fend for yourself financially, your ability to create a better self image becomes a very real likelihood.
Whether you're preparing for your kid's education, a lucrative early retirement, discovering how to manage your debt, finding a mortgage for the home of your dreams or learning to invest to build your wealth -- the more you want to accomplish with your money, the more you must learn. The Baby Boomer generation is now entering their 60s. Because of some poor financial skills, many -- some estimates say more than 40 percent -- are not invested in any financial opportunity and others believe that more than 70 percent of the boomer generation will work long past the traditional retirement age and many others will face financial insecurity in their old age. If you are in that category, don't give up. It's never too late to start putting money away; even small amounts are better than nothing. But let's use this example as an impetus to drive financial education to the next level for the children and grandchildren of the Boomer generation.
Many schools have already started to teach financial education to kindergarten through 12th-grade students. And more institutions of higher learning -- colleges and universities -- are also joining the mix to instruct undergraduate students in the finer points of how to effectively handle personal financial matters. Chairman Alan Greenspan and the Federal Reserve System have long recognized the value of economic and financial education to produce a stronger and better-informed group of citizens and consumers.
